Stop the Bus! Day 4 – Time Out

On Sunday, our day off, sleeping late felt like a godsent miracle. We stayed in bed until 12 am and even then we were lazy getting up. The rest of the day was spent in Hermanus where we enjoyed the tranquillity of the sea and each other’s company. The strain of the past few days transpired when everyone got very emotional on occasions.

I thought it would be a good time to get a statement from everyone about their experience of the trip so far.

Abigail: This has been a wonderful experience for me so far, making a difference in other’s lives and empowering them.

Shaamiela: I have learnt that communication is the key ingredient for successful team dynamics.

Shirleen: As an activist I am extremely grateful for the change I could have made in someone’s life.

Lavona: Om van ‘n armoedige gemeenskap af te kom en te sien hoe daar ander mense is wat nog baie swaarder kry was vir my baie openbarend en transformerend. (Translation)

Ntuthu: To be on this trip I have gained a lot of experience and sometimes it’s difficult to know each other as a team but this team I am with is the best.

Retha: I’m learning so much about people at such a rapid rate I’m quite terrified of vertigo.

Muneeb: Being on this trip and seeing such young survivors, I have learnt to appreciate my family life more.

About rapecrisisblog

We have a vision of a South Africa in which rape survivors suffer no secondary trauma, and are supported throughout their interaction with the Criminal Justice System (CJS). Our mission is to promote an end to violence against women, specifically rape, and to assist women to achieve their right to live free from violence. Rape Crisis Cape Town seeks to achieve its mission through counselling and training of women, thereby reducing the trauma experienced by rape survivors, and encouraging reporting of rape and the conviction of rapists.
