STOP THE BUS DAY ONE
It Wednesday morning 8:30 and Stop the Bus team is ready to take the road to the rural areas of the Western Cape. This year only one bus is on the road as previous years two teams took part in this campaign. This campaign goes hand in hand with the 16 of activism against the abuse of women and children.
First stop Paarl; it was just yesterday in the same town that the farm workers handed over a memorandum to the police. The strike is over and people are back at work.
The team made their way to the police station to meet the contact person Sgt. C. Bowes who was our escort for the day. The door to door was in an informal settlement, Brickfield people are very disadvantage with a high unemployment rate.
No toilets and only one tap (running water) for this community.
Shaamiela represented the team at the radio station where she was interviewed by Eddie Williams and Sura Swart.
The topics were understanding rape, myths around rape and what to do after a survivor has been raped.
The team was invited by SAPS to do a talk at a banquet prepared for female farm workers.
It was 10pm when the team arrived at the accommodation in Worcester.
